March 2015
Dear Families,
Your children come to our school every day to learn. At the same time, the adults in our building are learning about "Growth Mindset" during our staff meetings and grade level meetings. This research led by Carol Dweck focuses on learning about how the brain works in response to challenge and how we can adjust our "mindset" to become more resilient learners.

Read Across America Day was celebrated on Wednesday, March 4th with a kick off assembly for grades K-5 featuring The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and the Lorax. Many thanks go to Ms. McQuaid and her team of helpers who coordinated this special event. Throughout the day members of the community were invited to read aloud to classrooms. Be sure to ask your child about this special day at Crocker Farm.

MCAS testing begins in March for grades 3-6. We have attached the updated MCAS calendar to this message and encourage you to put it on your family bulletin board/refrigerator.

As you may know, Sharri Conklin has been serving in the capacity of interim Assistant Principal. In recent weeks, we conducted a series of interviews for the position. We are happy to announce that Ms. Conklin will be our permanent Assistant Principal. When you see her in the hallways, please feel free to offer her your congratulations!

Please come to our next School Governance Council meeting on Tuesday, March 10th at 8:00am in Mr. Shea’s office. We will be planning our annual Family Survey. We welcome your input.

Crocker Farm School with be hosting a family math night on Thursday, March 19 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  The evening will begin with a time for families to gather as a community for a pizza dinner. During this time, the 6th grade will be holding a pie sale to benefit 6th grade graduation. Then, families will be invited to join in grade level rooms around the school. At 6:45 all participants will be asked to come to the cafeteria for a raffle of games to be shared in classrooms the next day. Buses will pick up families at Butternut at 5:30pm, South Point at 5:40pm, and The Brook at 5:50pm.

Spring can be a tricky time for recess. As we embark on "mud season" please consider sending in a change of clothing in a separate bag for your child to keep in the cubby.

Thanks for continuing to support your child’s learning,

Best,
Derek and Sharri
