Dear friend and community partner:
The Office of the Superintendent is proud to announce that Project Backpack 2012 is currently underway. In its third year, this successful community outreach program provides new backpacks and school supplies to income-eligible students in our schools. This year, nearly 900 students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 qualify to receive these items.
In order to accumulate the tremendous amounts of backpack and supplies, Superintendent of Schools, Maria Geryk, is appealing to organizations and individuals in our community for help and assistance. She hopes you will agree to become involved in this worthwhile and meaningful outreach initiative.
Perhaps you will consider reaching out to members of your group for donations of supplies, placing a large bin in the lobby of your business for donations, or posting a blurb on your website to promote Project Backpack 2012. The List of Supplies is attached for your convenience. Monetary donations are gladly accepted as well.
If you would like to be involved in Project Backpack 2012 or have questions, please contact Kimberly Stender at 413-362-1825. Thank you in advance for the support you provide our students.
Enjoy your day!
Kim

The play was written by a 14 yo Alejandra Rojas for the Amherst Historical Society.

3:30 PM: THE CASE OF THE MISSING CATS - Multi-Arts After School Program Theater Company
Christine Moshinsky, the famous pop star, returns home from a show to discover that
her precious cats have been stolen! She hires two detectives to crack the case, but
one of them is too silly to be of much help. You'll meet a colorful cast of
characters they encounter as they try to solve the mystery, all conceived and
developed, along with the script, by the actors themselves.
4:00 PM: THE MOM WHO DIDN'T LISTEN TO HER MOM - Mutli-Arts Theater Company
A humorous account that brings local history to life for children and adults.
The play based on a real event that took place in New England in 1840. It tells the fascinating true story of a beautiful girl that disobeys her mother and goes out without a coat during a winter night and freezes with a terrible consequences.
Free admission.
Book swap details -- contribute books TODAY!
Dear Guardians and Parents,
Now is the time to send those old children's books into Crocker Farm. You can put them in your child's backpack or you can drop them off in the front office (there is a LARGE box near the black bench). Please send old books in good condition. All of these collected books will be sorted (by parents like you and me) on the 21st of May. Each classroom will spend 15-20 minutes so that each child may select some "new" books to take home. The book swap happens during the school day. Every child will get to pick at least one book to take home and add to their collection.
In order to make this inaugural book swap work at Crocker Farm -- we need your books -- even old board books! It's a great time to clean up those book shelves and re-vamp the book bin in your car.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Cammie McGovern (the book swap coordinator) at: cammiecg@aol.com
We look forward to an exciting and pleasurable experience for all of our children. Please help make this happen by taking the time to contribute your unwanted children's books today, tomorrow or by the 15th of this month.
Thanks so much! Best wishes for a pleasant evening,
Angela Mills

Thank you for the Scholastic Book Fair 2012!
Many thanks to Erika Zekos, Jeff Lefebvre, and all the wonderful parents and guardians who generously donated their time and energy to our 2012 Scholastic book fair! We enjoyed our visit from Author Lisa Papademetriou -- (special thanks goes out to Ms. Donovan for all of her help with that part of the evening book fair).
A final, and very heartfelt thank-you goes out to all of the families who purchased books from the book fair -- we thank you for helping our kids -- each purchase puts money towards the purchase of new library books for our Crocker Farm Elementary library. It was terrific to see so many families this evening at the book fair -- lots of intense discussion about summer reading titles and a visit from everyone's favorite red dog - Clifford!
