Volunteer to get school composting off to a great start!

Tons of food and paper waste are diverted from local landfills each year as a result of the elementary school composting program in Amherst.   Parent volunteers are needed to serve periodic two-hour shifts as “compost coaches” at Amherst’s three elementary schools.  Compost coaches help students with the waste sorting process in the school cafeteria during lunch.  The goal is to train the children how to sort correctly and keep the compost collected free of plastic and foil…a simple and rewarding task.   To learn more contact Susan Waite at the Amherst Department of Public Works, 413-259-3049 or waites@amherstma.gov.

I hope everyone is enjoying the last days of Summer. The weather is perfect, no excuse to get out and sweat hiking,walking, running or doing Zumba!!

I just want to let you know that I'm not going to be teaching on Thursdays mornings anymore. I'm not sure if there is going to be another instructor or another class. Please check at The Aerobics and Fitness Studio website.

Our Sunday class is ON!!. At Amherst Ballet 9:30am.

Our Monday class is also ON. At the Aerobics and Fitness Studio 5:45pm

This year, we started a Pre-K music program at the Red Barn, something that has been sadly lacking in Amherst in the past. We are lucky to have Katie Barry teachingKindermusik and are starting with ages 3 to 5, hoping to add more.

I am also happy to announce that a group of Red Barn parents has formed a committee, the Friends of the Red Barn, to promote music in Amherst. Catherine Sanderson, a great supporter of Amherst education, has accepted my invitation to chair the board and you will be hearing more of our activities in behalf of Amherst area children’s music.

Auditions for "Fiddler on the Roof"

Auditions For Fiddler On The Roof

Amherst Leisure Services presents AUDITIONS for Fiddler On The Roof for its 19^th production. Now is your chance to audition for a role in this wonderful production.

Principle, Ensemble, and Dancing roles are available for all ages. 

*Chilldren auditioning must have entered second grade*

Auditions for "Fiddler" will be held at the Bangs Community Center in downtown Amherst and require an appointment.

Audition times are:

Thursday, Sept. 6th, 6-9:15pm

Friday, Sept. 7th, 5-9:15pm

Saturday, Sept. 8th, 12-7:15pm;

Sunday, September 9th from 10:00 am - 11:15 am (violin auditions for 'The Fiddler' only, see below)

Sunday, Sept. 9^th, 12-5:15pm
 

All individuals auditioning will be asked to sing, dance, and read from the script. 

We are also looking for a Fiddler.  Accomplished violinists are invited to audition for the role of 'The Fiddler' at special auditions (violin only) to be held at the Bangs Center in Amherst on Sunday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m.
