Race to Nowhere Film at ARHS

Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools is proud to present the provocative and award-winning documentary RACE TO NOWHERE: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Gap. The film will be shown on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6pm in the Amherst Regional High School Auditorium. Tickets are $12 and available at http://rtnamhersthighschool.eventbrite.com/

The film’s director, Vicki Abeles, will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions from the audience. A facilitated discussion with Dr. Beth Graham, the District Curriculum Director, and local educational leaders will immediately follow the screening.

Superintendent Maria Geryk states, “This is the first in a series of community events in which the national conversation on education will be brought to Amherst. I encourage parents/guardians, middle and high school students, faculty, staff and community members to attend and discuss important issues facing education today. It is our hope that the provocative themes in RACE TO NOWHERE will spur real interaction within our larger community.”

The event is co-sponsored by Five Colleges, Inc. and the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce. Parents are asked to buy 2 tickets – one for them and one for a student.

RACE TO NOWHERE has set aside 50 tickets to subsidize free admission for middle and high school students who qualify. For more information, please contact Kimberly Stender, Volunteer Coordinator, at stenderk@arps.org.
