The Amherst Police Department will host a community meeting on Monday, September 13th to address the rash of break-ins in town and to discuss ways for residents to protect themselves. Since July 1, police say there have been 12 separate residential break-ins in South Amherst. The area of the housebreaks covers all streets and neighborhoods from East Hadley Road southward, east and west to the Granby, Belchertown and Hadley town lines. The majority of the break-ins occurred overnight, even when residents are home, police said. Robbers entered though unlocked doors, stealing purses, wallets and electronics. The meeting will take place at the Crocker Farm Elementary School at 7 p.m.
